The ‘several thousand’ actually applied to the other side: There were 138 suicide attacks and 1,038 Israelis killed from September 28, 2000 through February 8, 2005, according to data of the Shin Bet security service; and 3,189 Palestinians killed, according to data of the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem. In addition, 4,100 Palestinian homes were demolished and some 6,000 Palestinians arrested. 🧐

As we speak, there is a report that seas are rising rather alarmingly if you happen to live in low-lying coastal areas, while ice cap regions are losing ice-sheet thickness, again at an alarming rate. Glaciers melting. The evidence is all there.

@25:12 Speaking for myself, it’s not that I have become ‘embarrassed’ about national identity in general and the UK in particular, it’s that I’m simply not willing to commit my identity to an accident of birth. I was randomly, arbitrarily born here; I could have been born somewhere else, as could everyone else, so to identify with this accident of birth utterly makes no sense to me, and given the sanguinary, ignominious history of aggressive nationalism/patriotism in our collective history, then surely it doesn’t serve us as a species to continue with this notion of identifying yourself with some political lines on a map, within whose territory your mother just happened to plop you out.🧐
