  1. They told me 🇪🇸 Spanish was going to be easier than 🇫🇷 French for a native English-speaker, and in many ways it is (‘say what you see’; easier pronunciation etc), but the one thing they didn’t tell me was the wider use of the subjunctive! This took me a goodly while to master.

  2. Wise words. I would argue that listening, certainly in the early stages of language learning, is paramount; more important than reading. Reading has to be done in order to consolidate but, I would argue, that one can become conversationally fluent in a foreign language without 📖 reading a single word! After all, by age of 5 almost every human is fluently speaking their birth language to a competent standard and yet most are not ‘fluent’ readers at this point. As for the grammatical finer points; I’d recommend leaving all that business until the end.
