  1. What’s always been more than a little confusing about the death penalty in the US is that the vast majority of those supporting it also follow Jesus. Yet Jesus was quite explicit about stuff like this: “You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” (Matthew 5:38-39) Personally, I’m against the death penalty for one main reason: risk involved in executing innocent people. If I were on a jury where the possibility of the death penalty were involved, I’d be mighty reluctant to convict as there could always be the possibility of a mistake. 12 Angry Men is essential viewing here.
