Kinda hope they don’t blitz the lovely old core of Odesa but this seems inevitable at this point. Losing precious cities like these, architectural palimpsests of history is a tragedy second only to that of loss of human life.

@saberint Before this war started I knew nothing about the cities of Ukraine beyond a cursory knowledge of Kyiv. Having researched a bit more Lviv looks like the diamond in Ukraine’s tiara; a kind of Ukrainian Krakow in terms of pulchritude. Please God (if you are there) spare this city. Odesa looks like it’s a lovely, lively open port city … and it looks like it’s about to be wiped from the map. Tragic.

@carpediem7654 Ah, well, yes, Zelensky is hardly completely free of complicity in terms of the invasion of Ukraine; however, the simple fact of Putin invading a sovereign, self-governing nation trumps any Zelensky culpability you care to suggest.
