What’s confusing about this whole situation is that it’s possible to both condemn the Hamas attacks and think Israel has been more than heavy-handed in its response to October 7th. It’s possible to support Palestinian freedom from Israeli state oppression without being antisemitic just as it’s possible to support Israel against Islamist aggression without being anti-Muslim. These 2 things are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Too many folk are either one thing or t’other in this conflict when it’s possible to be both/and.

@djdiscoordination639 Yeah, that’s sounds about right. Imo, all this is ultimately futile. Yes, you can get rid of those who currently loathe you, but you can’t get rid of the ideas that motivated these individuals in the first place and these will just be passed like a baton to the next generation. The amount of bad karmic seeds Israel has sown these past 7 months will torment it for decades to come. As Asimov said: I remember how it was in 1948 when Israel was being established and all my Jewish friends were ecstatic, I was not. I said: what are we doing? We are establishing ourselves in a ghetto, in a small corner of a vast Muslim sea. The Muslims will never forget nor forgive, and Israel, as long as it exists, will be embattled.

Yes, but the urgent QUESTION is WHY are YOU randomly CAPITALISING every other WORD? 🤔

@tethergobrrr The problem with Israel (and I 100% support its right to exist), is that it’s like a spoiled child. America feeds it everything (militarily-speaking) and it seems to think it thereby has a free pass. The tap won’t be turned off, no matter what it may do. In other words, if I were Israel’s paymaster, I would attach conditions. That said, we all know Hamas’ charter is to wipe Israel from the map, so all this is rather tricky. Religion has a lot to answer for here. Yes, it’s not wholly a religious battle but well over 50% of it is. If humans could just deal with the idea of God without banding into religious tribes, we might have a chance. I say that as an agnostic most days.
