@lifesbutastumble I live in Scotland. Legislation has just been introduced that if someone at a comedy club is ‘offended’ by something and they make a formal complaint, the police may investigate. Wake up! We live in a culture where a small minority want to cancel the rest of us. Nice try. 👍

@lifesbutastumble Who’s to blame? Over-sensitive individuals who seem to think they can impose their over-sensitivity on the rest of us. I think it is the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately. (George Carlin) Amen.

@gabrieldsouza6541 Er, just because you don’t like a beer or a glass of wine at the end of the day, don’t impose that choice on other, different, autonomous, free individuals. You have no basis to do this. If I smoke in your presence, I accept that I could harm your health as a consequence; if I have have pint of Guinness in your presence, it doesn’t adversely affect you at all.

@1inchPunchBowl That’s more than slightly disingenuous. Back in the day, your argument would’ve easily obtained (mainly because smoking then was as ‘cool’ as vaping is seen today and more or less everyone was doing it), but no smoker I know today smokes directly in the presence of others and if they do, they establish they can with others before they do so.

@RogerMellie-yk3gw Oh, that. Well, I certainly don’t think of myself as ‘woke’ but that, to me, was quite clearly racist and misogynistic. However, I wouldn’t ban him (or anyone else) from expressing such a view. The other thing to note is that it wasn’t actually a joke, as such. It was just a basic, rather unfunny personal statement. I think with comedians, it’s kind of in the job description that they should be funny. What Hester said wasn’t clever or funny but he’s entitled to think it and say it, imo.
