Something hasn’t quite added up since day 1 of this war: Russia, officially the world’s 2nd strongest military power facing off against Ukraine, officially 22nd in this table, and yet the Ukrainians seem to be more than holding the line. Surely a testament to the overwhelming motivation the Ukrainians feel as opposed to the demotivated, morale-lacking Russian forces. Never underestimate someone protecting their home from perceived outsiders. Putin clearly didn’t factor this into his calculations.

  4.  @Zei33  He’s not lost it yet. I agree he completely miscalculated the mood of most Ukrainians, the Ukrainians who look west and not east. He appeared to think that the non-overtly pro-Russian Ukrainians would somehow roll over and have their stomachs tickled by him based on ‘Slavic brotherhood’ and all that jazz. This has been his biggest mistake. He’s not mad though. Drunk on power but paradoxically clear-eyed simultaneously.
