  1. As with Shanghai’s extraordinarily draconian lockdown, this has more than the whiff of a kind of ‘test-event’ to see just how much we are prepared to accept in the name of ‘COVID security’. This thing clearly exists, but the overreaction here in Shanghai and Beijing smells mighty sinister, even considering the repressive regime it’s occurring under. I imagine if open, relatively free liberal democracies attempted this kind of overkill there’d be resistance to the point of civil unrest.
