The weird double standards here are all over the shop: yes, Qatar is a nightmare for liberal values, but 56 years ago in England, the illegality of homosexuality was also a nightmare for liberal values. Yes, the argument is that England has moved on, but on the basis of holding a tournament and having certain laws at that time, England in 1966 is not that different from Qatar 2022.
