Let’s not forget that a couple of years ago Patel publicly admitted that her own parents may not have been allowed into Britain under her own government’s rules; and yet here she is, making horrendously expensive, morally dubious, some might say heartless rules for others simply seeking to do what her parents did.

@happydace6991 To be fair, there are countries in Europe with far more generous benefits systems than the UK; France and Germany for two.

@jamesjameson4566 We more or less take in the same amount as a percentage of population as France, Spain, Germany, Italy etc. It’s a fallacy to assume we take more than our fair share. If anything, we take a bit less. That said, I’m not an advocate of open-door immigration, but given that we have a non-reproducing ageing population it would be economic suicide in the long run not to take in a certain amount.
