  3. Smurthwaite (noun): one who takes offence on behalf of others who may not be offended in the first place. Example: ‘Jeez. I was a right Smurthwaite yesterday. I was offended on behalf of a black, lesbian vegetarian and Joan Armatrading wasn’t bothered at all!’
