So you guys are just going to completely ignore statements from the founding fathers that corroborate their desire for the citizens of the US to possess the right to bear arms as well? Of course you are!

@JPH1138 Where is this quote from? Because I find it hard to believe that Thomas Jefferson actually believed that every right in the constitution becomes null and void after 19 years. Even if this is the case there are other founding fathers who supported the citizens of the US possessing the right to bear arms.

@JPH1138 If your taking what Jefferson said in this quote at face value then all of the other rights in the constitution are null and void as well dude. Which means none of us actually have free speech or due process rights.

@beefcakepantiehoes I never stated that the actual text of the constitution said such a thing. Only that statements from the founding fathers themselves support the conservative perspective that said founding fathers wanted everyday citizens to have the right to bear arms. We definitely need to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of criminals but as it stands right now (since 2008) in the US the right for every law abiding citizen to bear arms is the law of the land and I don't want that to be infringed. I don't support any regulations that make it too difficult for any law abiding citizen to purchase a firearm (like the regulations in New York City for example). I do support common sense gun control like universal background checks but anything much beyond that will start to infringe on the current US interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. If said common sense gun reform is implemented and we still have this mass shooting problem then I'm personally prepared to let the chips fall where they may.

@beefcakepantiehoes By the way. What would you define as militia service? Because I'm pretty sure the founding fathers would disagree with you on that matter as well.
