It's part of a long term strategy to phase in NATO 155 mm artillery. The intent being Soviet era equipment will be depleted. To buy time to train Ukrainian artillery crews on NATO standard platforms. Russian MSTA-Bs are at a range disadvantage, as their cannons are 152 mm with L/47 barrel. While NATO standard is 155 mm with L/55 barrels. Meaning they can counter-battery the Russian artillery, while outside their range. They don't necessarily have to out firing the Russian artillery. But destroy the cannons themselves, by using counter-battery radar to detect their positions.

Granted those same tactics are applicable in close-quarters and urban warfare. Small unit tactics are also applicable in forward operations. The real question being what was the prior background, of the troop sent to the UK. As most general conscripts would have been trained either within Ukraine or in Poland.
