  1. Over the years we've adopted several dogs, when our kids were kids the most important aspect was how a dog interacted with them. When our daughter was eleven the shelter we went to had several dogs that seemed to fit, our daughter sat on the floor and just watched the dogs play however one dog came and climbed in her lap. We had that wonderful little dog for 14 years then a few years ago our daughter with her children went to the shelter. The setup was different (one dog at a time), this time there was one dog that had loving eyes that followed our daughter everywhere. In the meeting room once again the dog chose her, then sniffed and snuggled to the kids. Been five years now and she is very much a part of the family. The idea of NOT allowing kids to interact with a dog before adoption is one of the most idiotic policies I could imagine.
