From living in Israel, I have considerable experience with Muslim Arab populations and culture both here, in Lebanon, Gaza, Jordan, Judea and Samaria, and Egypt. I concur with everything you said. Also, in recent years, it has finally come out that almost all Israeli POW in all the wars going back to independence, were raped in captivity. Even inside Israel, where women's rights are protected by a Western style democracy and rule of law, nevertheless there are recurring "honor" killings in Arab towns, always having to do with sex or gender "transgressions" or perceived transgressions, usually perpetuated by fathers, brothers, and uncles. Rape is so inculcated in the culture as a weapon of humiliation and degradation, that many Arab men who rape men would never consider themselves homosexual AND many men who rape women would never conceive of it as rape, since it is always the woman's "fault". Not that rape isn't a problem in all cultures and all countries.

I agree with you guys, that classism and racism are parallel evils. However, USA racism is based largely on hatred, fear, and envy while Latin classism leans more on arrogance and "natural" privilege. Classism in Mexico and Latin America in general pivots a lot on "educacion y cultura," the way you speak and carry yourself in society. That's part of why you have honorifics and open respect for doctors, lawyers, engineers, professors, etc. that are not so apparent or prevalent in the USA, where money trumps everything. That's part of why teachers are so much more respected in Latin America than in the USA. But of course, people who have better education and "higher" culture generally attained that in large part because of their national and ethnic origins. So Indigenous are generally at the bottom and people of more obvious European origins are at the top, historically and generally. Still, Mexico elected an Indigenous man, Benito Juarez to the presidency in 1858, overlooking his "Indian-ness" in favor of his education, intelligence, and force of character. That didn't happen in the USA until 2008. To paraphrase President Obama (who borrowed from Theodore Parker), I'd also like to believe that the arc of history bends toward justice and, like in the USA, things in Latin America have improved in the last decades. But true justice is still a hell of a way off all over the damn place. Viva Zapata!

@wapa171 Hiya, I was drafted Nov.7 1979, spent 6 months in Bezek, near Jenin, Golani Basic Training, then up to the Lebanese border and the Golan Heights for most of my 3 years. I spent alot of time on Har Dov, the Hermon, the middle and north sections of the Golan border. I met troops from Fiji, Canada, and Holland at one time or another. After 82, I served in 609th Brigade, Antitank Platoon, for 8 years, also mostly in the north and inside Lebanon. I never met Austrian troops but when I lived in Eilat in the mid 80's I had a friend who was Austrian, has been in the UN force, and now was a carpenter. I don't remember his name. Good guy. We worked for the same guy for awhile. I'm still a carpenter.

Unfortunately, Trump's pronouncement is not a real plan, just a negotiating ploy, It's textbook Trump: propose something outrageous, scare the opponent, and then negotiate to something more acceptable. He wants to force the Arab countries to take more responsibility. I think it will fail, the Arabs really want no part of it or of the Gazans. The idea of a 2 state solution is dead. The Arabs never accepted it, the Israelis did accept it in the 80's and 90's but the constant attempt to exterminate them has pushed Israeli Jews public sentiment to the right. Also the demographics have changed, there are well over 500,000 Jews living in Samaria and Judea and they are never leaving, as it is the heartland of the Jews, where our name comes from (Judea or the southern West Bank) and well we need room to live like everyone else. The conflict is unsolvable. The future is one of increased killing and displacement. The only question is who will bear the brunt, and of course it is likely to be the Gaza , Judean, and Samarian Arabs.

No country on Earth compares with Mexico, most of all because of the people. Other nations are nice and even friendly, but the people are so warm and heartfelt, truly special in Mexico. Peru is beautiful and interesting and the people are good and nice but more introverted, slower, quieter. And watch out for altitude sickness! You might really like Argentina (my birthplace). Tango, Meat, and Nature....all incomparable. It's not as cheap as the other Latin countries but it's unmissable: Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Cataratas de Iguazu, Salta,

Who knows why deep down he actually loves Jews and Israel, but we'll take it. Welcome and thank you, brave ally. And both you guys, don't forget that Israel was built from nothing my LABOUR ZIONISTS, proud leftists and that the CORE of the IDF officer ranks is still leftist as is a big percentage of the Jewish Israeli population, though, sadly, not the majority. Remember, Ben Gurion, Moshe Dayan, Gold Meir, Rabin, Barak, our writers, singers, artists, even Kahalani Ha'saruf, all leftists. As for the leftists of the World, yes, they are the enemy now. But you guys get plenty of that on the Right, as Mr. Murray honestly points out.

Also, the best years in Israel were before 1977 when Israel was a Socialist state, with economic equality. Israel has 25% of its' children living in poverty under the Bibi Economic mandate. We are more polarized than EVER before, at each other's throats. Thank god for the bastard Arabs, without them to unite us somewhat, we would have a civil war in Israel. But the lovers of MONEY, the almighty dollar have taken over in the form of Bibi here in Israel and of Trump and Musk in the USA, where they are privatizing the US out of existence as a sovereign state. We Jewish Israelis like to think that we are a special people, but the reality is that we are going the way of all nations, living out the life cycle of resurgence, flourishing, divisions, and decay. Ultimately, it's the catastrophe of being human.

Egypt, Jordan, and Syria failed in at least 4 wars to eliminate Israel. Since then, they have, instead of frontal attacks, maintained the Gaza, Samaria, and Judea Arabs in a constant state of not belonging, not giving them citizenship, relative poverty and underdevelopment while making sure that weapons reach them. Every bullet and rocket that Hamas uses came through Egypt. Every weapon in the West Bank comes through Jordan. Their populations are overwhelmingly against the cold peace with Israel. I know this first hand after traveling to Egypt and Jordan various times. It is in their national, ideological, and popular interest to keep Israel in a constant state of terror attacks. The idea that they will support any part of Trump's plan is delusion. Nasty sick man that he is, he is still a rather stupid and ignorant American and the Arabs, masters for millenia of living in dangerous and complicated circumstances are imminently aware of this. They also take the long view, time is on their side, they believe and I tend to agree.

Ultimately there is no hope for humanity. An overwhelmingly White Christian supremacist country while united and cohesive is also oppressive, punitive, close minded, racist, homophobic, misogynist, hater of Jews and yes, Muslims. A more open, inclusive, multicultural country in our world will be swamped and destabilized not by tiny minorities like Jews, but by giant world populations of Muslims and others from non Western democracies. Look at Western Europe. And there is not stopping that trend without brutality and atrocities which always backfire. No hope. And this is without even addressing the globalized economy. The good days are over. We're all fucked.

Rivka, you are absolutely right. They should stick to tbeir own problems and solve them. They have no clue of the overwhelming Arab hatred of Jews. Until you haven't experienced them trying to kill you, as I have, it is very hard for the average Western mentaliy to digest, to comprehend. As an Argentinian-American immigrant to Israel in 1976, it took me several years to understand the total virulence of Arab hatred of Israeli Jews. I supported Peace Now until 2000. I scoffed at people older than me who told be what Arabs were in fact really about. It boggles the mind. Even Jews don't hate the Germans the way Arabs hate Jews, even though they have suffered next to nothing by comparison from Israel. They're society is one total oppression of their own people, especially women and girls, never mind LGBTQ, all of whom have to live in Tel Aviv. Their societies, goinig back to before Islam, is a gang war of clans and tribes exerting violent protection rackeets on their own people. Even the realitvely acclimated Israeli Arabs behave in this way, run their society this way. The commit honor killing in Lod and Ramle, 10 kilometers from the heart of Tel Aviv. No hope, and it's so true, most Israeli Jewish opinions are not represented or taken into account in the Western media nor even by our putative allies, the American government.
