  1. It depends on who you work for. I worked for a family owned business for over forty years, having 40 -45 full time employees by the time I retired. We had good benefits and decent pay with profit sharing (eventually turning into a 401k), but the company still contributed through profit sharing even if you did not contribute. The owner was a bit tougher on other family members in general because he expected more from them. The family sold the business about ten years ago, while they still ran it. Eventually the owner quit as the new company turned his family business slowly to shit and I retired shortly thereafter. The original owner was tough but fair and maintains my respect.
