I agree people should not be looking for hand outs, and I have saved with a 401k and other investments so I would survive without my SS. But I recently retired and paid into SS for over 40 years. My retirement includes my SS payments that I invested in. That is not a handout. For the government to take that away from me would be thievery as it's my money they would be stealing. I assume as Retired Navy you receive retirement money, You absolutely deserve it. Did they take money out of your paycheck for your retirement? I do believe that SS funds have been mis-appropriated and that should be addressed. Thank you for your service to our country!!!

@retirednavy8720 Thanks for replying. Honestly I haven't been following the SS story so maybe I assumed wrongly about what they want to do with SS. I think we are mostly on the same page here as I too have planned not to depend on SS. It is sad how many people have ignored their retirement.

@snowwhite7704 I feel for you. I have always believed a society should help those who cannot help themselves. When covid hit I was out of work for two months and received more money with unemployment and the extra money the government gave us. And the stimulus checks I didn't need. I felt the government was indiscriminately handing out money to people like me who didn't need it, when they should have given the extra money to people who need it more than I do. Of course inflation is hurting us all but even more so for people in your situation. Democrats act as if they care but what the current administration is doing may well hurt you and I more. Though I'm okay financially for now, I can see how I could end up in trouble with inflation. My savings are worth a lot less than just two years ago. No one really knows where we are headed as a nation. I don't see any protestors out theire fighting for the disabled, where is their compassion?
