Ash did not have the best start as a trainer in the very first Pokemon season and it's a mystery of how he graduates trainers school despite him being clueless about how to deal with some Pokémon but we slowly see him mature when he is challenging Pokemon Leagues in other regions. At least we got to see Ash having a proper Pokemon battle with Erica in the 20th movie as a consolation

@zinniaq3020 I'm talking about a school for upcoming trainers like the one Dawn went to before she was old enough to be a trainer as seen in her flashbacks. What do you think Ash was doing before he was old enough to get his first Pokémon which is Pikachu? Also an exam to easily get entered into a Pokemon League sounds as ridiculous as a Gym leader giving away badges without battling the trainer. Pretty sure that someone like Paul wouldn't take an easy way to get into a Pokemon league
