  2. I'd add that BJP is super sensitive to inflation. The BJP got voted out in 2004 because of high inflation. They have been buying loads of lentils, fertilizer materials and cheap cooking oil to bring inflation down. They will do anything to prevent prices from spiralling out. High food prices (oil have an outsized impact on food prices given India's terrible logistics) is a political suicide.

  3. Modi has the political capital to dump Russia. Heck, his popularity is high and there's enormous trust in his National Security decisions, he can talk peace with Pakistan and it won't dent his popularity. That kind of political capital doesn't come easy and hasn't since Indira Gandhi
