Comments by "M Shastri" (@libshastra) on "CJI Chandrachud On Fake News, Trial By Media u0026 His Favourite Newsperson | RNG Awards" video.
The irony of Chandrachud's statement is that the Supreme Court itself engages in a lot of contempt of court proceedings for criticism of the court and delegitimizes the press by constantly attacking it for "selective quoting" judges (To quote someone by definition means borrow/select a statement - so there's even more irony in calling it "selective quoting"). Press rarely talks about the deep nepotism in the higher Judiciary because of the threat of contempt proceedings against them. Chandrachud is all talk, no action. I don't think he really believes in the lectures he gives.

@ianupamdey Sure. I can't provide links, because Youtube scrubs the comment away. However, look up Govt of India v. Ajeet Bharthi and Govt of India v. Prashant Bushan (2009 and 2020) for examples of abuse of contempt of court. Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy Director Argyha Sengupta, has admitted multiple times on multiple podcasts including the Wire's podcast that he was threaten by the Courts with contempt about publishing his research on nepotism. Also it doesn't help the SC has a very broad interpretation of Section 2 of Contempt of Courts Act that makes it legal for courts to engage in contempt proceedings over what it considers to be "scandalizing the courts". Supreme Courts in all it's genius has interpreted to squash every form of legitimate criticism towards it - this was flagged in multiple Law Commission reports but in more detail in the 2018 law commission report.

@homosapien6414 Media free from political influence is a fool's errand. A SC with complete independence without any form of accountability is an undeclared dictatorship. SC has no respect for separation of powers.
