  1. Sig is for mountain warfare. The valleys in Kashmir are deep and you need a round that can cut that distance. With regards to AK 203, India has a huge paramilitary force that they use for internal security (and the Army rotates it's bootcamp troops with the paramilitary), the 203 is supposed to be used by them as well. Also there's a lot of confusion between Indian paramilitary and regular army amongst American defense experts. Often times American analysts mix up the two but they function very differently. India deploys it's paramilitary on the Pakistani border (except for specific sectors like Siachen & Kargil), the Chinese border is manned by the military. Patka helmet was invented for Sikh soldiers but became popular among paramilitary forces because it was light and more comfortable. Regular army is not supposed to use patka helmet. I'm pretty sure Battle Management System is already deployed in the Eastern sector, not sure about the Northern one. DRDO is fine, it's OFB (Ordinance Factory Board - another govt owned Enterprise) that blocks or complains against any private company participation. India's defense is stymied by socialist thinking but things are changing rapidly. The second term of this govt has helped with maintaining that momentum.

  2. Ultimately, the battle between China and India is going to be a battle between tactics and strategy. Indian commanders are darn good tacticians but they lack strategy thanks to the Bureaucracy. Chinese commanders on the other hand seem to lack tactical freedom but have a solid strategy.
