Comments by "M Shastri" (@libshastra) on "‘Obscenity not ad’: Sabyasachi receives backlash for mangalsutra ad, Twitter users troll designer" video.
Our community has become pretty thin skinned lately. We give too much importance to the dignity of inanimate objects. If we were equally outraged or gave the same amount of importance to Infrastructure projects like Metro projects in Mumbai stalled because of a penguin's ego our country would have been ahead of China. Infrastructure projects at least brings very tangible benefits to the community compared to outrage over mangalsutra.

@jatinsharma1595 we can show some maturity and simply ignore it. There's already no difference between us Hindus and the Muslim community because we engage in the same kind of religious outrage. I think this ad is beautiful, it shows that our religious symbols have a place in the modern world. It shows that I don't need to choose between our religion and modern life, I don't need to sacrifice my religion for intimacy with my significant other. They can coexist and each maintains it's own dignity and beauty. It was our chance to evolve our sensibilities, instead we are engaging in whataboutism. Besides the choose is still yours, you can ask your significant other to take off her mangalsutra if you feel so strongly. Nobody is going to raid your bedroom if you do or don't do so.

@Aditya-vb8sm they just want to shove Wahabbi Hinduism down our throats. It's not about protecting Hinduism, it's all about controlling will will women in the name of protecting some imaginary dignity.

@taurusied7447 you can choose to control your emotions and teach good values to kids. Our rich history allowed these kinds of 'obscenities'. It's carved in our temples, written in our ancient texts. You're more than welcome to go see various temples down south and stare at the 'obscenity' of scantily clad Goddesses and Gods embracing each other. Or you can go to any Shankara peetham (I recommend Sharadha peetham at Sringeri) and sit down read books that talks about how 'obscenity' does not rob one's dignity. Heck I'll arrange a sit down with Acharya at the peetham himself if you are they willing. He'll gladly educate you and ask you become a sanyasi if you think this is obscene. Heck the Acharya will call you a monkey mind too much time in your hands.

@shaktimahalik4193 what you call obscenity is actually intimacy. If you think this is obscenity, then by your logic definitely we should definitely burn the Kamasutra and demolish Khajuraho.

@JitendraSingh-ut3vj I know my past pretty well. It was tolerant to various interpretations. That's how we got intimate paintings of our Gods and goddesses. There's so many of them in temples in South. Come I'll take you to Kanchipuram and I'll show statues of a scantily clad Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva embracing each other. Beautifully craved expression of love in the eyes in the same pose.

@taurusied7447 the promotion happening here is your Wahabbi Hinduism.

@taurusied7447 nothing will happen. My family will grow and become well rounded human beings without being obsessed over 'obscenity', living a peaceful life and being proud about the open mindedness of Hinduism and rejecting this Wahabbi Hinduism.

@JitendraSingh-ut3vj you don't get such beautiful philosophy like Advaita, Dvaita philosophy by staying close minded like we are right now
