Anyone in public policy studies who follows National Mineral Development Corporations' history and all the mining laws that came to establish it's monopoly is in for a treat. This is one of those things that has decades of bad governance, bad economic policies and bad public policies all rolled into one. You would think NMDC is a rich corporation but it is far from it. It is a underperforming Govt. owned entity with a lot of sovereign backed equity and assets. The mine along with the corporations existence is an example of a lose lose situation.

Not in this case. The only rich folks are the Govt employees who operate this sorry excuse for a mine.

@mika274 well it's not a multi national corporation. It's the Government itself that's doing this. I don't think it's right to blame just the current Govt. though, they can be blamed to not getting rid of it. This has been going on for decades. NMDC who owns the mine (along with Coal India) are Govt. entities. These inept Govt. owned and operated corporations were created to maintain monopolies under misguided notion of socialism. They were exempted from environmental reviews at the time of their creation and were given free licenses.

Yup. Welcome to the quagmire of Indian laws. This has been a mess that's been decades in the making.

@NoneOfTheAbove123 closed the mine and sell NMDC. Jiska Raja vyapari, uska prajha bikhari - A Govt who engages in trade keeps it's citizens poor. Get the IAS out of business and into administration, hire dedicated inspectors, speed up judicial process. India needs a lot of reforms and comprehensive ones.
