  1. Correction, Singapore has been a close ally of India since Independence. Indian Armed forces and Singapore defense forces routinely cross train and use each other's facilities. It would be incorrect to say they aren't India's ally. Singapore's legal system often refers cases from the Indian legal system for it's judgements. There's a lot of cultural exchanges too. Lee Kuan Yee also helped then PM Narashima Rao when India was negotiating with the IMF for a bailout in '91. He pushed back on IMF's demands saying, "Rao has an extremely tough job managing India. I think he deserves some space".
