  1. In 2013, the Indian Parliament passed a bill that gave lawmakers temporary immunity from convictions. Rahul Gandhi, de jure backbencher called a press conference and tore that bill in front of the press, forced parliament to withdraw it. Fast forward to today, Rahul Gandhi is losing his seat because of a criminal conviction. Also fun fact, Rahul Gandhi's grandmom, Indira, extended the punishment for Criminal defamation to the current 2 years. India's opposition party is more despotic and dynastic than the current dispensation. (Imagine Justin Trudeau grandson is automatically nominated as leader of Liberal Party when he turns 21). India needs a better opposition and hopefully Rahul Gandhi's expulsion triggers the opposition to be better.
