The issue isn't that Govt. should not be entrepreneurial but Govt of India has proved that it's extremely bad at being entrepreneurial. Govt. with it's meagre resources wastes tons of money to keep loss making businesses running, that money could been put to better use like building roads, schools, training more teachers etc.

@hhcdghjjgsdrt235 Govt should govern and not run businesses. Govt. running a business not only depresses the business environment but it also makes the Govt. pay for it's losses. Those losses are lost opportunities of development. Consider the following: If Air India was privatized in the 2000s, then Govt the 40,000 crores of debt that it accumulated could have used to build several metro lines in the big Metros or several expressways in several states. (Air India debt could have paid for Purvanchal and Ganga expressway) Govt should come with reasonable regulations and must intervene less. Often times, regulations in India are vaguely and badly written and consequently used to blackmail businesses. This is also another area where opportunity is wasted away for zero outcome. Consider the following: Indian labor laws are notoriously hard to comply with and demands perfection. It is long and dense (around 5k pages for the basic edition) and you need to hire 5-6 people to write rules that makes sense for your business. A businessperson can use 5-6 worker to build better products, improve quality, improve pay but is instead forced to wade through labor code. The consequences of not following labor code is criminal prosecution. This is the opportunity wasted in the pursuit of complying with Indian labor code.
