  1. The Democrats have been muted so far. American politics is getting extremely ugly at the moment and the Democrats are dealing with it. The nice thing about American foreign policy, it's nicely institutionalized. They will likely press India on better trade and security alliance. I think we should think seriously about maintaining a firewall between our domestic politics and foreign policy. Our domestic politics is just ugly and stupid.

  2. Take a way longer view. I'd say 30-40 years. I think it will pay off in the long run. We understand democratic culture. They will slowly understand ours.
