  1. Defence deals are a great way to build relations with the US and get the US govt to disregard it’s own human rights reports. Nobody complains until the money stops flowing and buying American equipment is a great way to please US lawmakers. (That’s what China tried to do with creating jobs in the USA) P.S.: The U.S. will not stab us in the back. I can go more into details in the comments

  2.  @veryflow1156  interests intersect. US sees India as a counter weight to China. When Galwan happened, we rattled the Chinese. Got them to spend money raising mountain divisions rather than marine division. India unlike the USA also has a reputation of being sensitive to the concerns of the global south, if the USA is able to prop us up, we’d be able to strike deals and compete with the Chinese where they can’t.
