This analysis would have been more forceful if Shekarji spoke more about the lack of follow through. NAM died because of Nehrus lack of focus and follow through. Just like reforms, The kid and grandkid never bothered to follow through. A foreign policy can only be successful if there’s consistency and follow through especially between Govts.

@GildedFury sure. NRIs have been successful because Gandhi got us independence. That’s why NRIs needed exit visas (ECNR) and forex limits up until 2000s so that they can remain successful. 👏👏👏👏

@sankalp6872 you missed my point entirely. Even the best opportunities can become failures without follow through. Even the slimmest chance can become the greatest opportunity with good and consistent follow through.

@mchauhan4 again you miss my point. You can have a really good foreign policy but if you don't follow through with, it will become a failure. NAM was a product of it's time but it's failures were not because of structural factors rather it was disinterest - in other words lack of follow through. Each party became disinterested in common values proposed by NAM over time or followed their own policy. One of the most glaring examples of disinterest is the lack of condemnation with regards to Sukarno's overthrow by US and UK. That really cemented perception of India's lack of interest in SE Asia - which used to be the traditional domain of New Delhi.

@sankalp6872 I think we are talking past each other. So alliances break for 2 reasons - disinterest and structural factors. For eg: Our inability to sign a mutual defence treaty with the US is due structural issues with the relationship - i.e. China + our inability to commit to conflicts that the Americans might get involved in. Despite diplomatic bonhomie, we simply can't commit to a mutual defence treaty. I'm saying NAM died not because of structural issues but disinterest. In other words, our diplomat didn't not engage with their counterparts or build a grand strategy or coordinate diplomatic efforts. When I mean you are missing my point, I am basically saying we should be aware that our diplomatic efforts does not fall by the wayside. I used NAM as an example of how it can manifest. I hope that clear things up.
