Comments by "M Shastri" (@libshastra) on "Does the law allow use of Pegasus? 5 things to know as Supreme Court hears Pegasus petitions" video.
Pegasus doesn't worry me. What worries me is the lack of conversation around setting limits, accountability and oversight around surveillance. We all are well aware about how professional our law enforcement and Intelligence officers are š. They would bend their backs to please their political masters even if it's not something they explicitly ask for. I think we really need to have an open conversation about how do put limits and make officers liable for unwarranted use of surveillance tool. It's sad no one is talking about empowering Parliamentary committees to review interceptions and investigate them further (who knows some IB bloke eyeing a potential promo path might have snooped on Ashwini Vaishnav). You know, a chairperson of an IT committee might be able bring this conversation back in Parliament. š

Ā @Valkyri3ZĀ there are avenues. Subpoena records through the courts. Also, don't underestimate the power of forensics - if they surrender their phones to even a third party firm, the evidence would be clear as day. Ya, there's plenty of evidence to pick up on the phone.
