  1. As Time magazine once put it, Karma birthed Rajiv Gandhi into one of the World's greatest dynasties but with his arrogance and naivite made enemies of everyone. His appeasement pissed off every section of Hindu society (Mandal politics intensified because of his antics), his "big trees fall, jungle shakes" speech demonized Sikhs, his arrogant test of "secularism" destroyed many Pradesh Congress units, IPKF intervention made us colonizers of Sri Lanka and pissed off Tamils, his economics created a free fall and bought us to bankruptcy. The only saving grace for Rajiv was that his assassination ended up saving the Congress party. Congress was polling around 5-6% behind others, his assassination gave the Congress a boost to come back to power. Rajiv and Indira will be remembered for their disaster of PMship. Even Nehru (and Indira) is redeemable but Rajiv is far from it.
