Comments by "M Shastri" (@libshastra) on "India lists 30 critical minerals: What are these, why the listing matters, securing the future" video.
With such wonderful people like Shibu Soren, Mamta Banarjee, BK Handique (who came up with the policy that 26% of Mining company revenues should be awarded as annuity to project affected people in perpetuity) and most famously Pranabda who handed Ministry of Mines, you can only expect Canada and Australia levels of competence (sarcasm). Pranabda, just like his retro tax also wrote our most regressive mining laws. He helped make illegal mining a permanent feature of our economy. Such wonderful Ministers, most competent.

Permanent stable funding like that will greatly improve Research Output.

We have allocated USD 5 Billion for 5 years for National Research foundation that's USD 1 Billion/year. Given our PPP that's close to $8-9 Billion/year, that's 1/5th US Research budget (roughly adjusted to PPP). Wish it was higher but nonetheless, this is a good amount of money and more importantly, it's stable funding for Research and isn't subject to annual swings. More sustainable than whatever we have at the moment. Now I wish with iCET, Govt also improves ease of importing material and instruments and reduces the paperwork.

@RahulKumar-ng2gh TIL! We need to talk more about local ghotalas. We are too focused on National ghotalas that we forget that Politicians loves to keep their ghotalas local.

@ed5928 precisely. If Shekarji says something, it will probably become false the next moment. Things are changing quite rapidly for good or bad.

@sankalp6872 I can forgive our ancestors, for they did not know any better. Most of them were illiterate and got taken for a ride. However, I cannot forget today's socialists/communists/left liberals etc. They should know better (probably they do) but yet they yearn for the old days. Those who support are fools to think it is about socialism. It isn't about socialism, it's about dominating people's lives and rebuilding the darbari culture.
