  1. Pretty sure it's mainly politics at play here. If there was an incentive for political cooperation, then it probably could have lasted longer.

  3.  @FUPA_CABRA  The point is that it's "not gonna be replaced" the point is that it will never be as big as the ISS. As only an international cooperation could make it that big. The current ISS is the largest space station there ever was. As the closest one to it was the Mir station and it was 3 times smaller than the ISS. And no Space station that we have in our plans atm that would even come close to it. Most likely the next Space station that will surpass the ISS in terms of size and mission. Would be the rotating space station, but that won't be coming for at least half a century... and even then you would need an international cooperation again as it would be several times bigger than the current ISS... but honestly with the way things going in right now in the world. It's hard to predict whether we will get to that point at all or not...
