For the same reason people are on youtube, even though it bans 90% of my messages, and recently removed all of my content ( after 10 years of being on the platform). Because it grow up on you. YT was literally my school teenage years. People get accustomed to certain things, same with projects...

This is pure Orwell. I was actually witnessing it slowly creep up, which it started like 10 years ago... Not allowed to use the word "black" in a game where that word was in the name of a unit... literally hindering the gameplay... but that word was prohibited in chat... And over the years its started creeping more and more into different social platforms... absolute insanity. This is legit just pure evil. I had never in my made any intentions to prohibit a certain group etc. yet Im getting punished because someone else in their sick mind thinks of a certain everyday word as an offence... absolutely mind boggling. and pure evil.

Yep. before 2009. Windows 7 is the last independent OS.

At this point getting banned from those sorts of communities is a badge of honour, unless you were being a d. or had some malice intent or wanted to offend someone etc. I've gotten banned from so many communities just trying to reason with them. People generally don't like thoughtful people that ask questions ( the absolute majority) and question their ideas...
10
Yep. By the very definition that's terrorism. Instigating fear for just merely existing, is terrorism.
10
That's a good question actually. I think the sensible solution to it is to actually create databases of the people who thought that political opinions and affiliations got anything to do with open software and just ban them like they banned us. Problem solved. I honestly don't see other solutions.

i. e. Cut out some inconvenient stuff that fits the current political agenda...
9
@ yep. My comment got also deleted.
8
Yep. And just guess what obligations that money had for them...
7
Yep. Pretty much our only saving grace at this point. And it honestly fair in my books as I do support games and devs that I do want to support. I pay full price - deluxe edition on release. If I want to support the dev. But if I have no intentions of doing that. Then there should be a way to p. it. As I did with GTA 5, which was the absolute worst GTA in the series for me. I could not even finish it because of how bad it was, only completed it to like 30 percent... And it would honestly feel bad if I'd actually payed money for it. As I do not support the direction that they were going, and I do not want to support the devs. And it looks like the same thing is happening with the GTA 6... My only hope is that GTA 7 will be better.
7
Yep. And it's only going to get worse... With new operating systems they will be able to control the user and it's files within the system remotely, in real time.

The irony is that CCP is much more lenient. What the w. world has come to, coming from a com. country myself ( was born in one). I would have never expected the west to come to this. Literally all of my childhood dreams of the 90s. Were shuttered, of the w. and America in general being the land of the free, compare to com. countries... This level of censorship and unfreeinnes I've never seen or experienced in a com. country before... (90% of my messages getting censored)...
6
The reason is simple. The majority of maintainers are dependent on their involvement in the project and their lives and salaries too. So they can't protest. As it always has been in the past. The majority always goes with the flow. The elites - are moving the flow whichever way they want, and the majority follows that flow. The few outstanders that don't agree are always the minority, and depending on the will of the minority, they can change how things are, if they fight hard enough... and may eventually become new elite...

And that uniform probably contains a Buddhist symbol...🤔🤔
5
Because you didn't sell your soul like the rest of them.
5
Linux foundation most likely was.
4
Thats Orwell in a nutshell. Everything is the opposite of what it claims to be. The exact opposite.
4
It was the answer long before that point. I remember certain games that you weren't even able to launch if you purchased them legally... Or that they ran with stutters and freezes and lost like half of it's fps, running an anti p. software in the background... Meanwhile only the p. version gave you a clean experience. Somewhere around 2007 is when this whole ordeal started slowly creeping in...

@werthorne There are plenty of countries. Actually Russia is a good place tbf

my msg got dltd by woke yt lol

It's funny because I remember I had a gay friend in college (early 2000s)... that's when the whole emo thing was new and popular. And nobody had a problem with it. But somehow they've manage to turn it into an ideology to ruin the society for all. And that is so devious of them.

😂😂👍👍

Is there any left at all???? The best option is Opera as far as I am aware. But "best" is still a stretch. They sell off all of the private data, but at least not censoring, and shove off the political affiliated information off of your results as far as I am aware (though it would obviously change in the future seeing all the general trends now). But yeah... its tough.

Same. I used to absolutely love Linux (from the videos an interviews that I saw). But this move made me absolutely switch into not liking him at all.
2
100% agree. And now there's not turning back from it for him. He had divided himself and the community in two...
2
@MyName-tb9oz Pretty sure it started from the hippies of the 80s (which itself arose from the Vietnam...) and then it slowly started creeping in.
2
And the worst part about this. Is that I couldn't care less about their ideology if they'd just kept it to themselves. Even if they supported the Austrian painter. Or supported it's opposite force. If it wasn't mentioned in their business or their software I would even care to check as that is their personal opinion and personal life. The problem arises is when they try to force their opinion on EVERYONE through their job. I'm pretty sure that's the bottom line definition of fascism. Forcing your ideology, regardless of other's personal belief on others. That's fascism/communism in a nutshell. And I don't understand how any sane person could be supporting that or think that is normal.
2
@plainsabertooth7828 Well if they specifically ask you about that. That's another thing. As you can answer or can not answer that. The problem is FORCING IN the opinion. i. e. I don't care if you support "white circles", or "red squares", but only people with "red squares are allowed to enter"... to walk on this mandate everyday road. That is where division and oppression is created. They come to you on an average walkway to prohibit you from walking on a pathway if you don't support "red squares" or whatever other shape or form of their predetermined opinion. That's forcing IN on their own VIEW and OPINION that is the problem. And not the opinion itself. I personally don't mind either point of view, including the "woke" kind. My problem is the force of an opinion on others and demanding an alignment to an ideology. Be it ideology of "red squares" , "blue hexagones", "yellow octagones" etc or any other. Anyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's when someone's opinion starts to be forced in upon others that is the problem. Not the opinion per se itself. And that's fascism/communism by the very definition. When there can only be one opinion/ one party. And you have to align to that opinion or party in order to belong and function in the society itself. Forcing in the opinion is the problem. Not the opinion itself.
2
@joesalyers Thank you for your insight. I would gladly read any additional thoughts on that topic since I'm also interested in the Marxists/communist mindset. Thank you in advance.
2
They did the same thing in Russia. Supporting communists in general, which are saying that the government should be overthrown for a great commie future lol.
1
Yes please. 👍👍I would join in.
1
Oh my God. They are straight up evil. This is evil.

Holy cow😡😡

The point is that they'd prospered, as they were nurtured and allowed to develop and take over the community. It was a deliberate strategy by the d. state.
1
Not Maoism. THAT'S COMMUNISM in of itself. They have only one way - communist way, everyone else deserves to be purged by their logic. And every action is justified for anyone who is not a communist. That's communism 101. They became communists. By the way, Trump is only slightly better than the d. state. The d. state is like 95% communist. And Trump is like 50% communist. (Communism opposes liberalism, and is for 100% governmental control).
1
That's the only saviour at this point. Having an liberal sovereign entity controlling the liberal - free world, which Russia has become. No one else. If the entity is not sovereign, is gonna be able to fork it with no repercussions. Only Russia.
1
They are making it now because they need to save face with Trump. That's all there is to it.
1
In theory it's possible. But they have money and power. It's possible to topple that, but would require enormous amounts of effort and cooperation. So our only solution in this situation is wait for an "outcaster" like Russia or China to branch off their own open OS so that other people would join and get freed from the enslavement of the "woke" ideology.
1
wtf is going on rn in the world.
1
I think it's the same with Vinyl. How relevant is it now? Kinda, sort of, for some stuff, and some collectors. But not really to the degree that everyone is expecting. Like a collectors box of WC3 of HL2 would probably go for alot of $$$, and not much else.

The unfortunate irony is that everything starts as good and later turns into you know what... The idea of liberalism wasn't bad either when it began. Same as "Freedom" and "Liberty"... Same actually for Fasc. etc etc after those ideas got initially developed by innocent thinkers and philosophers with good intentions, they all, all of those ideas got hijacked eventually by sick minded people. And turned into you know what... That's the unfortunate reality of this bs...
1
I agree.

This absolutely normal btw on youtube too. I got banned in most of the popular channels ( let alone news channels), because my opinion usually is the exact opposite of what is being preached... and how dare I not to agree with them... They only allow nodding followers that don't question their DEI and etc narrative... that's what it had ultimately came to in this day and age. p. s. and just to be clear, I am always extremely polite and complimentary, the only difference is that I have the opposite opinion, for example I wrote "And what if it's the opposite?" and got insta banned. lol
1
Not Maoism. Communism.
1
Pretty much. And the worst part is, Firefox has been doing shady stuff in the background on my computer (same as Opera). I haven't launched those browsers in years, and haven't updated my system in years. Yet sometimes see them popping up in the background doing some shady stuff... It absolutely became a malware spying tool. Lol
1
Also they are still buying the Russian resources... You know, the ones that they can't get themselves... like the Russian titanium and high grade aluminium etc. This was all a farce from the beginning. I personally support R. however I also respect everyone's choice. And I expect some integrity. If you are banning Russia, then do so properly and not for the lowly weasels at the bottom, but for your own league, you don't ban things which are important to you... Because otherwise the economy would collapse... Absolutely hypocritical to the core. That's why I don't like the w. in general.

Reddit in general became a cesspool

Flash drives are still a thing. So they could be selling movies on flash drives if they wanted to, to make it a physical copy. But yeah... Unfortunately everything is going digital online and that is scary. Because you know that they will use that power to manipulate people etc and deprive them of their rights when they get the chance... Like half of my comments are being dl ted. And there is no fair arbiter to judge whether that was justifiable or not. They are the authority who decides that... Same thing will be going for "digitally owning" anything...
