You can't "not talk about" survivalist instincts because the first thing we humans do is analyze appearance for self preservation. Read up on some sociology because it's tiring seeing this argument. It isn't practical at all and usually stops more important conversations from happening.

The use-mention distinction is also a tool for sophism pretty easily so that needs to be noted for those who tend to excuse the "use" of something by not expounding on it. In laymens these are the people that will be offensive and then say "Im just saying"....

@chrisweidner4768 This just doesn't address the issue. It's naive and takes away from more important discussions. If there's a leak in your pipes and you ignore it, does the issue go away?
