  4. The speed of light is what it is because the meter was defined in terms of the speed of light. Before that standardization, back when the meter was defined in terms of homogenous metal at a specific temperature with specific dimensional ratios, measurements of the speed of light actually varied. By redefining the meter in terms of light speed, it is now not possible to detect any changes in the speed of light -- all that would show up would be a new calibration value for length.

The Australian forest fires were likely as severe as they were because their government banned preventative burns -- some of the only houses that survived received massive fines for taking common sense preventative actions that had been working for years. Probably could have avoided the disaster if the climate apocalypse nutters hadn't taken over.
