  1. Government has no role in personal medical decisions. However, in my opinion, it is reasonable to say that a fetus that is viable if removed from the womb is a person with rights that must be protected by the government. In this regard, I think the reasonable approach is to make it illegal to abort those fetuses and instead provide funding for supporting those viable fetuses whose mothers wish to remove them: society says that it has an interest in preserving the rights of the unborn person, but it cannot impose those costs upon the woman whose interests do not align with the interests of society. As with all laws, compliance is a voluntary matter, but evidence of noncompliance is a criminal matter.
