  2. The Consumer Price Index dropped last month, not just the year-over-year rate. The index itself decreased. It takes a long time for the yoy rate to turn around and indicate that we had been experiencing deflation for months. It is a lagging indicator. The annualized month-over-month rate is a current indicator. Purchasing Managers' Index is a leading indicator.
