  1. Lentils do not need to be soaked. Many beans do, but lentils are not beans. I have not had any success growing lentils in Florida -- the most productive legumes in my experience are cowpeas/southern peas, of which black-eye peas are a variety; my favorite is purple hull pink-eye, which can grow 20 foot branching vines and produce pods nonstop for a couple of months.
