I recommend making a ruana cloak out of fleece for keeping warm and comfy/cozy. (The controversy over "comfy womfy" vs "cozy wozy" remains unresolved, so use whichever term you like.) It is basically a blanket that doesn't fall off/unwrap easily, and you can use it as a blanket when not wearing it. All you have to do is measure and cut when using fleece or felt. For an outdoor cloak to keep the rain or snow off, you'll want canvas or linen treated with beeswax for waterproofing, and that will require a bit of sewing to hem the edges and prevent fraying. Skip cutting a large hole for the neck if you want to use it for warmth.

@Alayne89 I just made one out of a canvas dropcloth I dyed green in a washing machine. Much lighter and easier to work with than duck canvas (and cheaper). Not convinced I want to waterproof it with pure beeswax.
