My main concern with crypto as an asset class is the current reliance upon elliptic curves and the difficulty of solving discrete logarithms, which can theoretically be broken by quantum computers. China supposedly just tested a new quantum computer that is at least as powerful as Google's latest model, so I think caution is warranted. NIST will be finalizing their post-quantum crypto standard next year or the year after (I think that Crystals-Kyber and Crystals-Dilithium will be included in the final spec since it is one system that fits both use cases of encryption and creating digital signatures). Bitcoin and other cryptos will be unable to transition over to a post-quantum encryption system without a hard fork, and all those who do not make the transition are likely to lose their crypto savings.
