The idea that it is primarily a social contagion is questionable -- that may be a contributing factor, but I have not seen anyone make a strong, conclusive argument that it is the primary cause. However, the medical intervention stuff reminds me of eugenics programs: find people suffering in some way and vulnerable to malign influence, then do irreparable harm to them in the name of "scientific progress" or some such.

If Syria can stabilize over the next several months, I imagine that a lot of these currently hesitant refugees will probably start returning of their own volition -- or at least, the ones who cause problems can be legally returned by the governments who granted them asylum. Hopefully the rival factions form a confederation between autonomous areas to work things out politically over a few years and then later form a federation, much like the US or Switzerland.

I am sure there are plenty who merely used the political situation as a pretense, but the real refugees will want to return. Once the real ones do because it is safe to go home, those who are left are there for economic reasons.

More relevantly, the Kyiv regime appears to be somewhat beholden to neo-Nazis, so it is conceivable they were allowed or encouraged to leave because they were not of the acceptable race - from what I've gathered, there have been actual pogroms there over the past decade.
