  1. The question we really should be asking is, "why are so many people left-handed compared to the 16th century?" Women breeding with the Devil in a drunken stupor on Thirsty Thursdays, making all these left-handed children, that's what's going on. It's a plague and a contagion! No other explanation for it.

  2. The idea that it is primarily a social contagion is questionable -- that may be a contributing factor, but I have not seen anyone make a strong, conclusive argument that it is the primary cause. However, the medical intervention stuff reminds me of eugenics programs: find people suffering in some way and vulnerable to malign influence, then do irreparable harm to them in the name of "scientific progress" or some such.
