  1. I played a match a few nights ago that was 3 hours long in which my opponent and I were each firing salvos of 60+ nukes at a time, and none of them ever landed. It was a little ridiculous.

  2. Orbital play is your greatest weakness. You could have gone for jigs like 10 minutes in and avoided all of your eco issues. Just a single orbital fabber slowly making jigs would have paid off massively. And SXXs are cheaper than nukes and easily more practical for killing comms/catalysts. You would have been better off getting to the metal planet and fighting your massive battle there instead of focusing on the earth-like planet.

  5. One of the main issues with gas giants is the lack of antinuke structures. I'm starting work on a mod that will add orbital antinuke and nuke structures/units. I didn't get much feedback on the idea this weekend because we were testing burntcustard's naval mod, so I present a question: would you rather build nuke launchers on anchor-sized platforms, or have a mobile, short-range nuke satellite that costs more resources to construct the unit and less to construct the nuke? (It's sort of a false dichotomy; these are just my two ideas for orbital nuke production.) Oh, and the orbital antinuke will have slightly increased range, fire a beam instead of a rocket, and will require energy like a Holkins rather than metal (I'll calculate the energy cost of constructing and individual antinuke and add 50%). What do y'all think? Also, tunnel vision, yeah. Happens.

  7. Chill. Uber balances units by first buffing them to an extreme to see how it affects gameplay (remember the days of bumblebee spam and invincible vanguards?). They will then nerf (or buff other things) as necessary to keep the unit's usefulness while making other strategies/unit combinations viable. And just like any unit "balance" first pass, this one will be divisive: I actually really like the direction in which they are going with this. Increased range and vision are an absolute necessity for the Dox to retain any usefulness at all (otherwise, they get instakilled by any vehicle). The vision should maybe be reduced, but then bots are the only unit type without any scouting ability. The idea of having AA in the Dox is a little random, but the implementation is really not worth bitching about. Something definitely has to be nerfed (perhaps make them less spammable), but increased range (>50) and vision (>85) are necessary for the unit to be even marginally useful. This first pass is basically an attempt to fix all the general shortcomings of bots in a single unit. Uber will level it out soon enough.

  8. catbert7 Fair enough. You make good points, but unit diversity does win against dox spam even now. The issue is that dox are too buffed and thus the only viable opening strategy in the current meta. Decreasing sight and range would certainly help balance them, but increasing their cost might also be worthwhile. Keeping HP low enough to be a one-shot kill from ants/bolos/alleged tanks/rippers/asteroid belts/unit cannons is definitely necessary, though.

  13. Around 40 minutes in, when you were hurting with negative energy, the main issue was insufficient storage. I played a 3 hour match tonight after you left the ts server and the dark anime conversation ended; when building 60 nukes and hundreds of antinukes, storage is king.

  16. My spawn really sucked. I had mountains blocking off expansion to south and east, with constant border skirmishes with yellow on the west and finally rolf-san in the north. Meanwhile, rofl-san had no neighbors anywhere except me to his south and unhampered expansion in all other directions. That planet really sucks considering there was only 1 spawn location Dx Also, I did not have enough forces to both defend against the white horde and take out the yellow comm. It is a little distracting to have to defend against a top-tier player who has an uncontested spawn and a thousand mexes =-=

  18. Rofl-chan, when your horse is out of stamina and breathing heavily, standing on grass (which does not grow in forest shade) will allow it to graze and very quickly regain full stamina. Also, you can drop gold ahead of an oncoming wave to distract them; the small trolls will grab the coins and run away instead of attacking. An interesting result of this mechanic is that villagers with excess gold in their pockets will drop some gold when hit instead of immediately giving up and abandoning the kingdom. Another use of this mechanic is dropping a lot of gold in front of a portal before your raid arrives, which will thin out the troll ranks.

I think the main thing hampering you during your early expansion was that you did not have enough storage to support your fabricators: the energy in particular swung wildly negative and then wildly positive. Also, hemorrhaging would be when you are wasting/producing excess resources that you aren't using. I think the term you meant when you were low on metal was "anemic" ;)

  25. I have seen a lot of recent matches where vehicles trampled doxes. If you play against some dude who has zerg-level micro (like Posidian), then that might not work.

  42. When I saw the water right next to you, I figured you would eventually make your own slammers and torpedo turrets. And then, instead, you kept building energy when you were floating it. Building your base next to water and not getting any water defenses/amphibious units was one hell of an oversight.

  45. You should consider using orbital radar satellites in matches like this. They provide invaluable intel, and you may even be able to drop a SXX on top of a nuke or antinuke silo without much effort. GG at any rate. Very interesting, grueling war. Gotta love spilling robot guts.

  48. You had the eco to just pump out SXXs, and you had an idle orbital factory. At the very least, a SXX can wipe out a catalyst without much effort, so you should always build them in these games.
