  1. I never heard Gingrich participate in a long form conversation like this before. Thoroughly impressive man. The statement "you are probably a deeper thinker than I am; I'm just a politician" seemed particularly humble and self-aware for a politician.

  8. That trailer for the documentary was the first time I have heard that Bach fugue in the wild, so to speak. I learned how to play it a decade ago, but I haven't heard someone else play it in about as long.

  9. The Tower of Babel is also a representation of the mountain. The difference between use is one of intention rather than form: the ancient high priest would have ritual sex with the priestest/temple prostitute at the top of the tower to call down the power of the Watchers so to speak in a ritual of ecstatic opulence, whereas the prophet would go up to the mountain to be more receptive in a ritual of quiescent asceticism.

  10. I think the distinction ought to be made between anonymity and pseudonymity. For example, I've maintained this account for ~15 years, and I have no intention to switch it on a whim. KYC rules are largely inappropriate for most aspects of life -- imagine if you had to provide your social security number to buy a sandwich at the local deli.
