Inflation occurs when currency issuance becomes untethered from production: the currency created dilutes the price of circulating exchange media, and it benefits those closest to its issuance at the expense of those further away in the transaction web because price information is discovered only through transactions. In simpler terms, if you increase the circulating supply of currency without also increasing the circulating supply of goods and services, prices rise -- i.e. the price of currency when denominated in goods and services drops. Price is an objective measure. Value, on the other hand, is necessarily subjective, else nobody would transact.

STAR voting fixes it: by giving up on rigid, deterministic guarantees on desirability criteria, it achieves most of them most of the time and a better result over all compared to other voting systems.

  23. From the numbers that I've seen, wages did not keep up with inflation, so I doubt very strongly that wage growth was a significant contributing factor to CPI inflation. I'm pretty sure that most of the CPI inflation was due to the combination of supply chain disruptions and currency issuance through government deficits financed by banks (especially but not limited to the Fed and Silicon Valley Bank). Btw, the Fed is sitting on accumulated, realized losses of more than double their capital. Before considering those losses, they are at a 190x leverage ratio last time I checked, so considerong the losses they are at a -190x leverage. If the other banks could do that, they'd definitely not be worried about credit quality.

Modern institutions promulgating mainstream economics do their damnedest to avoid ever mentioning Richard Cantillon or the distributional effects of currency issuance.

  37. First-past-the-post is one of the worst possible electoral methods, especially for singular positions where electing a consensus candidate would be more appropriate. We really ought to replace it with some form of score voting. The simplest improvement would be to replace fptp with approval voting, where each elector votes for any number of candidates, but the best method would be STAR with negative votes (i.e. score each candidate between -1 and +1).
