"Power is always dangerous. It attracts the worst and corrupts the best. Power is only given to those who are prepared to lower themselves to pick it up." -- TV Ragnar

Who would have thought that relying on solar energy in a country that is cloudy much of the year could have backfired?

The war crimes in Bucha were committed by the Ukrainian army.

Those provinces have had ethnic conflict for at least a decade. Ukrainian forces have been slaughtering civilians in these border regions. It makes sense that they would want to join Russia for protection. Let's not forget that this whole thing started after allegedly Ukrainian shells blew up a school in the Donbas and several buildings in Russia proper. Any peace is an improvement at this point. The West should stop trying to prolong this war as it did in April when NATO officials advised Zelenski to abandon peace talks.

If Putin achieves meaningful democratic reform, he'll be remembered as a legendary hero for generations the way Turkey reveres Atatürk.

It is also worth noting that Biden broke the US side of the peace deal with the Taliban in the first place, delaying the withdrawal by six months without renegotiating the deal. Perhaps it would not have been any different, but the fact of the matter is that the current situation can be reasonably blamed on his decision to reneg on the previous administration's peace deal promises.

It really sounds like the correct and logical conclusion to this whole clusterfuck operation. Foreign powers refused to integrate the Taliban into the government, so now they are claiming what has been denied to them for decades and with remarkable ease.

I don't know that I would call the ex-soldiers of Assas's regime "experts" in anything who could "come back to haunt Syria". From what I have seen, they were entirely incompetent. Most will probably return when they are confident in the guarantees of the amnesty.

The bit about the US learning from the experience of "the appropriate levels of funding, foreign involvement, political processes, and autonomous, organic growth" in Afghanistan means "the US knows several ways not to set up a stable government in the Middle East".

Everyone knows that the best strategy is to build your own nuclear weapons as quickly as possible while also getting more voting power in the UN, then vote for a ban on production.

It already is outdated. All rebel groups started waving the interim government flag a day or two ago.

Trump "curtailed civil liberties and the freedom of the press", did he? How the fuck does anyone come to that conclusion? Because he called the fake news media "fake news"?

I'm glad that during these hard times I can count on Kaspian Reports to take my mind off of the pandemic and not worry so much.
