The English didnt loose anything really, only their freedom and becoming serfs, the un-educated never learning latin!, their religion basically got mixed in with Christianity to suit them, example , the roman religious sights was built on existent sights, religious dietys twinned the same way, the brythonic language still stayed the same right up untill the anglo saxon era, which then changed the language for good...
