The English didnt loose anything really, only their freedom and becoming serfs, the un-educated never learning latin!, their religion basically got mixed in with Christianity to suit them, example , the roman religious sights was built on existent sights, religious dietys twinned the same way, the brythonic language still stayed the same right up untill the anglo saxon era, which then changed the language for good... The Ancient Brrtton DNA can still be found in the millions all across British isles and Ireland as people flee war and go back to ancestral lands at some point, .also the Roman and norman DNA is the least to be found as these was the aristocracy that came over to govern after invasion completed and given their own earls land.. The poor ancient plebs the English had to just grin and bare it and adapt, as their brothers from the West and North decided on hiding in their own hills on all invasions instead of fighting with for their island, it was left to the English, and English only to try and repel all invasions, as Welsh and Scots would rather hate their ancestral cousins than unite for the common good and imminent threats, which can still happen today even?..
