Maybe because we are building on every scrap of land, and small countries with a influx of migrants have to build even more, the trees getting chopped greenacre land cleared, is all contributing to the demise of insects.. That man has the right idea and made is own little paradise, you keep stuffing people in high rises or blocks of flats with concrete for parking instead of gardens it takes it toll on wild life and fauna, during ww2 nearly everybody had a garden or allotment plot, sadly even they are now being built on, lots of people grew and raised their own food, my mother took great pride in her garden with many flowers, every summer it was a hive of activity with many species of imsects, birds and even squirrels which she had to shoo of many a time for eating all the food and chasing the birds away, well she didnt she'd let the dog out and say "shoo em off gal" which the dog found great fun, but never once could catch or even come near catching one, to be honest i think she'd be scarred and run away if she came near, squirrels are no push over, when push comes to shove....
